The core skill on every diver’s list to master is buoyancy control! On the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy specialty course your instructor will teach you how to control your buoyancy, work on your trim and positioning in the water, play with your weighting and practice different finning techniques!
This is one of PADI’s most popular specialty courses that we recommend for every diver, whether you’re straight out of your open water course or have done many dives (and courses) since, there is always room to improve and no better feeling underwater than being in complete control of your positioning and buoyancy!
The course is run over a single day with 2 dives where you will work on mastering your buoyancy with your instructor through a range of exercises and games!
We usually run this course on a weekend in combination with the PADI Underwater Navigator specialty, as navigation is another core skill every diver would love to master. These two skills lay a sold foundation for any future scuba courses.
The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course runs over a single day with a quick theory review in the morning and 2 dives during the day. It’s an action packed day that runs for about 8 hours.
We normally start the day at 9AM at the dive centre and do two ocean dives at Port Noarlunga Reef afterwards. We normally finish the second dive around 4:30PM!

Where some dive schools still choose to teach the theory side of the learn to dive course in a traditional classroom setting, Diving Adelaide has chosen for the faster, cost-effective way of teaching the theory via online training. To us, the advantages of e-learning are clear:
E-learning provides a single experience that accomodates the three disctinct styles of auditory learners, visual learners and kinesthetic learners, allowing for more efficient training.
E-learning is self-paced. Advanced learners are allowed to speed through the theory, while others slow their own progress through content, eliminating frustration with themselves, their fellow learners and the course.
E-learning has on-demand availability, which allows the student to complete the training conveniently at off-hours or from home (as a student you can log on and off to do parts of the theory as many times as you want) and doesn’t require the student to travel to training location.
E-Learning reduces the learning time on average by 40 to 60 percent, which means the overall time that you will be spending on the theory will most likely be only half of the time you would have spent in a classroom setting.

This course is for certified divers only. The minimum requirement is therefore a PADI Open Water Diver certification.
Have you completed your Open Water or Advanced Open Water Diver certification with a different agency? PADI recognise most other training agencies, such as SSI or RAID, so you can simply cross over to the PADI system by booking onto this course. If in doubt, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
We have taught the youngest kids all the way up to 70 years old to dive, so don’t think you need to be superfit to participate in this course!
There are no waterman skills (swims or floats) to complete before the course, but you have to be comfortbale in the water of course and be able to carry the equipment (including a tank and weights).
All participants need to fill out a dive medical questionnaire before the course. Simply follow the steps on the form to determine whether you will need clearance to start your course. We recommend SPUMS Diving Dr Anne Sampson from Hallett Cove for dive medicals (Mobile: 0418 803 250).
The minimum number of participants for us to run the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course is just one, as this course can be taught as a private course.
The minimum age to do this course with us is just 12 years old.
Whether you’re sick, got COVID19, need to isolate, haven’t completed the PADI eLearning in time or can’t make the proposed course dates anymore, you can reschedule at any time before or during the course for any reason.
To reschedule, we will charge a small rescheduling fee of $99. As soon as a course spot is booked, we reserve a company van and book in an instructor for your course. The rescheduling fee will be used to cover the costs.
The theory for the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course is delivered through PADI eLearning. The eLearning is included in the course fee.
The theory for this course takes approximately 2 – 4 hours to complete.
The main thing to remember is that we are going to get wet anyway, so if it rains a little that is totally fine (you will be nice and warm in your new drysuit).
However, we are of course dependent on the weather, with the wind and swell being the main factors that determine whether we can go diving safely. If the weather forecast predicts large swells or high winds, we may have to transfer the course to a different weekend. We always keep an eye on the weather forecast and will notify you beforehand if we expect this to be the case!
The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course is normally run over 1 full day with a quick theory review and gear fitting session in the morning and 2 ocean dives during the day.
Please block a full day in your agenda for the day. Exact times and the dive site will be confirmed by your instructor on the course.
Any dive centre around the world will recognise your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course certification card. PADI is the largest certification agency in the world with more than 6000 dive centres worldwide.
Even if you end up diving somewhere in the world with a non-PADI dive centre, they will recognise your certification.
All dive gear will be provided by Diving Adelaide for the duration of the course if required, including mask, snorkel and fins!
To guarantee a perfect fit and the most enjoyable experience, we recommend coming in store to have a look at our masks, as the mask is the most important piece of equipment!
Once you have succesfully completed the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course, you will have gained valuable insight into controlling your buoyancy, balancing and potentially reducing the mount of lead weight you carry and learn more advanced finning techniques!
You will be added to the Diving Adelaide newsletter, where we announce our (free) social shore dives for ex-students and our weekends away, interstate and international dive trips and so much more!
You can join any of the dive clubs in Adelaide as well. Many dive clubs run boat dives for just $25 for a single dive or $35 for 2 dives!
Keen to take the next step? You’re now one step closer to achieving the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating! This rating is achieved by completing your core courses (open water, advanced open water and rescue diver) as well as 5 specialty and completing a minimum of 50 dives!
This couse is commonly taken between the PADI Open Water Diver Course and PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course or shorty after the Advanced Course. If you have not completed your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course yet, we highly recommend taking this course next. This course is run over 5 dives, focussing on a different core skill on each dive.
If you have completed this course already, we recommend taking the PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty or the PADI Rescue Diver Course next, which is designed in a way that you can sign up for it straight after your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course. The Rescue Course runs over just 1 weekend (or 2 weekdays)! During the rescue course you will learn how to prevent and handle diving emergencies and become a more competent diver and dive buddy.
