PADI DPV (Scooter) course

Cruise the reefs with our Scubajet Pro jet-propelled underwater scooters!

About the DPV Specialty Course

$499

Jump in with your DPV instructor for a crash course on underwater scooter use!

Diving Adelaide has two Scubajet Pro 1000W jet engine diving scooters in the fleet with a reach of approximately 3km! Circumventing Port Noarlunga Reef or scootering out to the Glenelg Blocks becomes a breeze when using a Scubajet Pro (and it’s great fun!).

As these units are jet powered, they’re very fast, so we only run this specialty course as a private 1-on-1 specialty course at a price of $499, which includes two underwater scooter dives and a theory session!

Our Scubajet Pro Dive Scooters

When we say these scooters are fast, we’re not lying! The 1000W Jet Engine of the Scubajet Pro can produce a top speed of approximately 7km/h, which (when underwater) is lightning fast!

A comfortable cruising speed is approximately 2-3km/h, which is what we’ll be using for most of the course to explore the reef.

Our scooters come packed with powerful 400W Smart Batteries, which will give you between 50 and 75 minutes of dive time at standard cruising speeds!

Most of the time the scooters will be operated with two hands, but the scooters come with a tethering strap, so you can operate them with just one hand.

The Pro version has a 1500 lumen light in the nose, to illuminate the reef on overcast days!

The display on your scooter will show you your depth, the water temperature, your speed and how much time you will have left cruising at that speed until the battery runs out!

"ONE OF THE MOST FUN COURSES EVER"

~ Aaron (after completing his first ever scooter dive)

UNDERWATER SCOOTER ROUTES

Standard Course Routes

Day 1

  • On the first day of the course, we always go to Port Noarlunga Reef. We can either park in the southern car park and circumvent the southern side of the reef, or we park in the standard car park (next to the surf life saving club) and circumvent the northern side of the reef.

Day 2:

  • On the second day of the course, we normally circumvent the other part of Noarlunga Reef (if we have done the northern part on day 1, we’ll explore the southern part on day 2 or vice versa). This way you get to explore the whole reef including the gap (with a depth of approximately 19m!) and see parts of the reefs most people haven’t seen before! Alternatively, we can take the scooters to Rapid Bay and do a full loop of the jetty and surroundings!

To sign up for the PADI DPV Specialty Course, you need a minimum of PADI Open Water Diver Course (or equivalent).

Have you completed your Open Water Diver certification with a different agency? PADI recognise most other training agencies, such as SSI or RAID, so you can simply cross over to the PADI system by booking onto this course. If in doubt, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

We have taught the youngest kids all the way up to 70 years old to dive, so don’t think you need to be superfit to participate in this course!

There are no waterman skills (swims or floats) to complete before the course, but you have to be comfortbale in the water of course and be able to carry the equipment (including a tank and weights).

All participants need to fill out a dive medical questionnaire before the course. Simply follow the steps on the form to determine whether you will need clearance to start your PADI DPV Specialty Course. We recommend SPUMS Diving Dr Anne Sampson from Hallett Cove for dive medical (Mobile: 0418 803 250).

The minimum number of participants for us to run the PADI DPV Specialty Course is just one, as this course is taught as a private course!

The minimum age to do this course with us is just 12 years old.

Whether you’re sick, got COVID19, need to isolate, haven’t completed the PADI eLearning in time or can’t make the proposed course dates anymore, you can reschedule at any time before or during the course for any reason.

For each rescheduled participant, we will charge a small rescheduling fee  of $99. As soon as a course spot is booked, we reserve a company van and book Kris in for your course. The rescheduling fee will be used to cover his costs.

The theory for this course is delivered through a classic PADI manual (eLearning for DPV does not exist yet) and takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete.

The cost of the PADI manual are included in the course fee.

The main thing to remember is that we are going to get wet anyway, so if it rains a little that is totally fine (you will be nice and warm in your thick wetsuit).

However, we are of course dependent on the weather, with the wind and swell being the main factors that determine whether we can go diving safely. If the weather forecast predicts large swells or high winds, we may have to transfer the course to a different weekend. We always keep an eye on the weather forecast and will notify you beforehand if we expect this to be the case!

The PADI DPV Specialty Course is normally run over 2 days with a theory session on the first day and two single dives over 2 days.

Please block a full day in your agenda for the first diving day and a half day for the second diving day. Exact times and dive sites will be confirmed by your instructor on the course.

Any dive centre around the world will recognise your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course certification card. PADI is the largest certification agency in the world with more than 6000 dive centres worldwide.

Even if you end up diving somewhere in the world with a non-PADI dive centre, they will recognise your certification.

All dive gear will be provided by Diving Adelaide for the duration of the course if required, including mask, snorkel and fins!

To guarantee a perfect fit and the most enjoyable experience, we recommend coming in store to have a look at our masks, as the mask is the most important piece of equipment!

The Scubajet Pro underwater scooters are of course also provided for this course.

Once you have succesfully completed the PADI DPV Specialty Course, you will have gained the experience to dive with scooters anywhere in the world! Many technical/cave divers dive with scooters as well to explore long caves or large areas!

You will be added to the Diving Adelaide newsletter, where we announce our (free) social shore dives for ex-students and our weekends away, interstate and international dive trips and so much more!

You can join any of the dive clubs in Adelaide as well. Many dive clubs run boat dives for just $25 for a single dive or $35 for 2 dives!

Keen to take the next step? You’re now one step closer to achieving the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating! This rating is achieved by completing your core courses (open water, advanced open water and rescue diver) as well as 5 specialty and completing a minimum of 50 dives!

Most people will have completed their advanced course before taking the photography specialty. In that case, we recommend taking the PADI Rescue Diver Course next, which is designed in a way that you can sign up for it straight after your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course. The course runs over just 1 weekend (or 2 weekdays)! During the rescue course you will learn how to prevent and handle diving emergencies and become a more competent diver and dive buddy.
