A Buoyancy Clinic is the best way for you to learn and practice the more technical “soft skills” of diving that make a huge difference to your comfort and confidence in the water and helps you to enjoy all the rest of your dives so much more! This clinic focusses on really mastering the core skills that all great divers use to become and stay in complete control underwater.
In the Buoyancy Clinic our expert instructors will focus on teaching you the tips and tricks that we have learned, over years of diving and teaching, so you can look and feel like a Dive Pro underwater!
During the buoyancy clinic you will be focussing on the below 3 core skills, which all relate to your buoyancy and positioning in the water!
Having better control over your buoyancy means that you are a lot more relaxed underwater as your breathing will be rhythmic and even. You also won’t need to constantly fin to remain at a constant depth. This makes a massive difference to how comfortable and confident you feel in the water and will help to greatly reduce your air consumption.
Having a solid and streamlined trim position will help you feel more stable and move through the water with ease. This means that you won’t have to keep making small adjustments consistently and will also help you conserve air a lot more. Understanding how your gear influences your trim position in the water and how you can adapt your setup to improve your position will help you get into that perfect trim position with whatever gear you’re using.
Using different finning techniques for different situations means that you are always moving as efficiently as possible through the water. It also means that you become a lot more manoeuvrable and can work your way around obstacles so much better while ensuring that you do not damage any marine life or silt up the water.
Our clinics are tailor made! The instructor on your clinic is an expert in the field of the specific topics covered in your clinic and loves to share his knowledge and passion with you in a clinic. Clinics are hand on experiences, so there is no homework to be done beforehand! Rental gear is not included in the clinics, but can, of course, be rented for the day.
In the Buoyancy & Advanced Finning Techniques Clinic we will cover the following:
We always try to do these clinics over dodge tide so that we can do the hovers and trim checks without being influenced by currents. That means that the course dates and times can vary to provide you with the best opportunity to learn.

This clinic is for certified divers only. The minimum requirement is therefore a PADI Open Water Diver certification.
Have you completed your Open Water or Advanced Open Water Diver certification with a different agency? We recognise most other training agencies, such as SSI or RAID. If in doubt, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
We have taught the youngest kids all the way up to 70 years old to dive, so don’t think you need to be superfit to participate in this clinic!
There are no waterman skills (swims or floats) to complete before the clinic, but you have to be comfortbale in the water of course and be able to carry the equipment (including a tank and weights).
All participants need to fill out a dive medical questionnaire before the course. Simply follow the steps on the form to determine whether you will need clearance to start your course. We recommend SPUMS Diving Dr Anne Sampson from Hallett Cove for dive medicals (Mobile: 0418 803 250).
The minimum number of participants for us to run a Clinic is 3. If you would like to sign up with your dive buddies, please contact us to schedule an extra course or imply look at the course schedule for all upcoming clinics.
The minimum age to do this clinic with us is 14 years old.
Whether you’re sick, got COVID19, need to isolate or can’t make the proposed course dates anymore, you can reschedule at any time before or during the course for any reason.
To reschedule, we will charge a small rescheduling fee of $99. As soon as a clinic spot is booked, we reserve a company van and book in an instructor for your clinic. The rescheduling fee will be used to cover the costs.
The main thing to remember is that we are going to get wet anyway, so if it rains a little that is totally fine (you will be nice and warm in your new drysuit).
However, we are of course dependent on the weather, with the wind and swell being the main factors that determine whether we can go diving safely. If the weather forecast predicts large swells or high winds, we may have to transfer the course to a different weekend. We always keep an eye on the weather forecast and will notify you beforehand if we expect this to be the case!
The Buoyancy & Advanced Finning Techniques Clinic is normally run over 1 full day with a quick theory session and 2 ocean dives all in the same day.
Please block a full day in your agenda for the day. Exact times and the dive site will be confirmed by your instructor on the clinic.
Please note there is no certification for this clinic, as it’s a practice purely focussed on improving your buoyancy skills.
Cylinders (or air fills) and weights will be supplied for this course is required.
Please note dive gear is not included in this clinic. You can rent the gear for the duration of the clinic through our online rental portal.
