Komodo Liveaboard Trip 2025

See the unique Komodo Dragons and dive the turquoise waters of Komodo from the Indo Siren Liveaboard with us!

Diving Adelaide Komodo (Indonesia) Liveaboard Trip 2025

We’re off on another adventure to explore the waters of the UNESCO World Heritage Komodo National Park in the centre of the Indonesian archipelago! The region is home to over 50 dive sites with more species of fish and coral than any other region in the world and is one of the richest marine environments in all of Indonesia!

In the north of Komodo, warm waters flow from the Banda Sea providing clear tropical water and pristine hard corals! In the south, cooler waters flow from the Indian Ocean and deep water upwellings bring masses of plankton providing nutrient rich waters to feed soft corals, other invertebrates, reef fish and of course manta rays and whale sharks!

We have planned the trip right on the full moon, which normally means we’ll be rewarded with greater pelagic action and more exciting dives! The dive sites vary from rock pinnacles and walls to dense coverage of soft and hard corals, sponges and prolific fish life, to fringing reefs, sea mounts and channels where we expect to find the big guys feeding on the plankton rich waters!

Of course we will be visiting the Komodo Dragons as well as part of this trip. The area we’ll be visiting was given protected park status in the 1980s to conserve the habitat of the dragons and as time has gone on, the protected status of the area has expanded to provide a safe haven for a diverse flora and fauna both above the water and below. Imagine yourself in a national park with a volcanic origin, surrounded by fringing coral reefs and turquoise waters, diving the reefs from the comfort of the Indo Siren 5* Luxury Liveaboard!

Nitrox and PADI Advanced certification are recommended for this trip.

LOCATION & DETAILS

About the UNESCO Komodo National Park

The UNESCO World Heritage Komodo National Park lies in the centre of the Indonesian archipelago, between the island of Submawa and Flores.

The volcanic islands are inhibited by a population of around 5,700 Komodo dragons, which are unique to this area. The beautiful white sandy beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters contrast starkly with the dry savannah on its rugged hillsides that form a dramatic backdrop to the dive sites we will be visiting on this trip.

Located at the juncture of two continental plates, this national park is the last location to see Komodo dragons, which once lived across Indonesia and Australia. The rich coral reefs fringing the islands within the park host a great diversity of species and attract the presence of manta rays, whales, dolphins, mola mola, dugongs and sea turtles amongst other.

Visiting Komodo in August

The weather in Komodo is at its best between April and November (the Komodo dry season), with the best time to dive falling between May and October. During the wet season – December to March – the weather can get very windy, with a lot of rain, causing rough surface conditions.

We have chosen to plan our trip in August, which is the peak season for Komodo, as it’s right in the middle of the dry season. During this time you have the highest chance of spotting Mola Mola (sun fish), especially around a full moon. Our trip starts on the 20th of August, the day of the full moon in August! Surface conditions are generally calm and the waters are nutrient-rich at this time.

Whether you’re a seasoned diver seeking new adventures or a novice eager to discover the wonders of the ocean, diving in Komodo promises an unforgettable journey. It’s a destination that will captivate your senses, ignite your spirit of exploration, and leave you with lifelong memories of the beauty and grandeur of the underwater world.
