24 Feb: Leafy Sea Dragon Tour @ Rapid Bay

Leafy Sea Dragon at Rapid Bay Jetty 25 Feb 2014

Last Monday Ron and I drove to Rapid Bay to take my dad (Cees) out on a Leafy Tour!
My mom and Miles tagged along as well; they went on a leisurely stroll on the beautiful little beach at Rapid Bay while we explored under the jetty.

Cees hadn’t been diving in a while so we started the dive with a little refresher to make sure he was all refreshed and ready to go look for the dragon ;). It didn’t take long before everyone was comfortable and we started the dive. Visibility was amazing, easily 15 metres if not more. We came across some curious and fun marine life, including lots of squid, 2 cuttlefish, a couple of spider crabs, and huge schools of fish around the T-section. There were schools of Old Wives and schools of Bullseyes swimming next to eachother. There were actually a lot of the “usual suspects” as well! (Sea stars, globefish, pencil weed whiting, grubfish, scalyfins, goatfish, sea sweeps, leatherjackets etc.).

At the end of the T-section there was a beautiful Leafy Sea Dragon waiting for us, not shy at all and he loved being in the picture with us ;)

After the dive we drove through McLaren Vale for a delicious dinner at Oscar’s. Great day, I love scuba diving in Adelaide/South Australia and I definitely love our dragons!
