9/10 Nov: PADI Open Water Course Dives @ Port Noarlunga Reef

Open Water Diver Course 9 November

A new world opens with Diving Adelaide’s PADI Open Water Diver Course in Adelaide, South Australia.

Our first open water diver course was fully booked with 5 students signing up for the course, all ready for an underwater adventure!

All of them had completed the online theory and passed the online exam and were now ready for the practical part of the course in the pool and the ocean! After a great pool session at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre on Saturday morning, where we met the guys from Divers Delight, who were in the lane right next to us (divers everywhere – great promotion of our sport!). We arrived at Noarlunga around mid-afternoon and the winds had already picked up a bit, so the visibility on the Saturday wasn’t the best, but everyone still very much enjoyed their first open water dive (and they were toasty hot in our brand new 7.5mm Mares rental wetsuits)!

Early Sunday morning we met at Noarlunga again, but this time we were ready to dive the reef (yesterday we had only dived the jetty, where we had seen some massive spider crabs)! Obviously we saw all the usual suspects (silver sweep, morwongs, old wives, moonlighters, a few nudibranchs and more), but the favourite of the day was definitely the decorator crab, carrying all the little pieces of grass and soft corals on its back to try to blend in with its surroundings!

After three dives on the Sunday, we had done all the required skills and explored enough of the reef and the jetty to call it a day! Visibility was quite good with on average about 9 metres vis and the water temperature was 17-18 degrees so Summer is definitely around the corner!
