09/09 PADI Women’s Dive Day

Diving Adelaide was one of many PADI Dive Centres from around the world to participate for the inaugural PADI Women’s Dive Day on Saturday 18th July 2015.

Estimates indicate more than 6000 divers participated for the event, a pretty cool turn out! Let’s see if we can double that next year!

The goal is to get as many women as possible, at every level, diving on the same day in order to build awareness and interest in the sport. Your reason to come out could be to refresh your skills if you haven’t been diving for a while, to dive with friends and family, to dive just because or to see what South Australian waters has to offer us divers. You’ll be surprised! Adelaide and South Australia have such a vast range of dive sites for us to explore and enjoy diving.

This year’s event was run by 2 PADI Dive Masters (DM’s), Renee and myself Shelley. We were there to lead the dive, to buddy up with newer divers, finding critters, and to just make the event a fun and safe day of diving! And that’s exactly what we love and why we became PADI Divemasters!

For us here at Diving Adelaide (Adelaide, South Australia) our fun day of diving took place at Port Noarlunga Jetty and Reef (we just call it Portys). The dive was (of course) followed by a lunch at a nearby popular cafe.

To celebrate PADI Women’s Dive Day we had set a theme to add to the festivities. So the diver diving in the most pink won a pink dive mask. That’s excluding us 2 DM’s of course as we own a few pink dive pieces ourselves, just a few…

Congratulations to Jasmin for winning the mask!

All up, there were 8 of us diving together. Pretty cool for the first PADI Women’s Dive Day event! Thank You to all the lovely women who participated! And because of the beautiful weather that day there were many more divers out there enjoying the sport!

Join us for next years PADI Women’s Dive Day on 16th July 2016. See you all there! And as Ron would say: “Happy Days!”.
