Leafy Sea Dragon galore with Diving Adelaide at the Bluff, Victor Harbor (South Australia).
With the amazing weather we had last weekend, Ron, Damo, Andy and I decided that we absolutely had to go diving! Plus I just received my new Scubapro X-Tek Form harness, which I had to take on a test-dive! With this weather, we thought the Bluff in Victor Harbor should be the ideal location.
Once we arrived we noticed the swell was coming from the wrong direction for us to be able to make an easy rock entry, so we had a chat with the local fishermen and they were fine with us entering the water from the ladder on the fishing jetty.
Immediately after entering the water, I noticed the clear visibility, and it looked like it would be a promising dive. Once we got around the corner we were treated with a visit from a seal (or sea lion?) that quickly swam around us and then continued its journey. It’s always great to encounter seals; they look so elegant in the water! While diving along the wall enjoying my new equipment we discovered several crabs, a couple of crayfish and at least four beautiful Leafy Sea Dragons! Big and green/yellowish, these dragons were floating peacefully through the water. It was great to see so many, and it looked like one of them was pregnant so their numbers might increase even further in the near future!
On the way back we picked up some stuff the fisherman had lost underneath the jetty to thank them for minding us while fishing and we celebrated the beautiful weather and dive with a nice lunch in the sun on the foreshore at the Beach House Café.
What a lovely afternoon! Can’t wait to go back there!
