Cuttlefish Diving at Rapid Bay Jetty South Australia Adelaide

Our friend George is one of our ace students from Sydney (who went all the way to the PADI pro levels)! He learnt to dive with Ron back in November of 2012 in Sydney and completed his Divemaster course at the end of last year. He is doing an exploratory trip to Adelaide to see whether he would like to live down here and obviously wants to check out some our premier jetty dive sites as well!

The first three dives on the schedule was Noarlunga (helping out on an advanced course on the jetty and reef) and today we were ready to show him around at Rapid Bay! After a mandatory stop at the Yankalilla Bakery on the way in, we met up with Brett in the carpark and suited up for the gear. The surface temperature was up in the high 30s today, so the quicker we could get in the water, the better!

Surprisingly, the visibility today wasn’t as good as we expected. The water close to the new jetty was quite milky (outgoing tide) and before we jumped in, we had already heard some comments from other divers that it wasn’t very good today. The visibility turned out to be a lot better closer to the T-section though and most likely because we anticipated currents and bad vis (going by what the other divers told us), the dive turned out to be very nice. We must have been lucky, as there wasn’t much current when we dived under the old jetty and the visibility cleared right up near the T-section.

Obviously George loved the dive (who doesn’t love Rapid Bay?) and we saw heaps of cool stuff down there. Strangely enough, we didn’t encounter any leafy sea dragons on this dive though? Good thing we’re doing a Leafy Sea Dragon Tour this week (with George) this week, so we’re sure he’ll see them next time!
